Wheel Classes

This all-level class will focus on setting achievable goals and working on foundational skills such as centering, pulling up the walls of a piece, and creating consistent cylinders. The class will also cover trimming and decoration techniques, as well as how to addhandles and other charming flourishes to your creations. In this class students will be making a set of giant beads (both handbuilt and thrown on the wheel) that will later be strung onto a piece of rebar to fashion a trendy garden totem sculpture. This is your chance to make this artistic piece to your own liking, in the color palette of your choosing. Students will be able to implement any theme that inspires them or simply make the shapes that speak to them. The class will use impressions of real plants, practice carving, and using underglaze transfers. The sculpture will be crowned with a spherical shape that features a hand-sculpted animal. Rebar and washers (to fit between beads) will be provided.

The second week will center around practicing wheel throwing, while the third week will focus on trimming, adding handles, and finishing your pieces. Finally, in week four, students will practice glazing their work. This is a beginner level class for students looking to dip their toes into the wonderful world of pottery and get a good sense of what working with clay is all about.

Handbuilding & Decorating Classes

Join this class and learn to knit in the continental style—renowned for superior efficiency and speed. Over the course of six weeks, students will master several new stitches, understand how to obtain gauge, manage tension, and take home several finished pieces of clothing including a hat, a dishcloth, fingerless gloves, and more. The instructor will gradually introduce casting on, binding off, the knit stitch, purl stitch, working decreases, knitting in the round, and even using double pointed needles. After completing this course, students will have the skills to easily comprehend and follow any pattern from home, and there will truly be no limits to what they can knit!

Join us for this light-hearted handbuilding class, where students will get to make a set of Easter themed candleholders. This is your chance to make the custom table center piece of your dreams! Ceramic candleholders are not only the quintessence of beauty and elegance, but they also have a lovely sturdiness which makes them ideal for tapered candles. Join us for this inspiring, deeply creative class where students will get to build dinosaur sculptures. The second class will be devoted to painting on bright colors of underglaze in many layers. In this way, the sculptures will come to life with stripes, feathers, or even polka dots! The sculptures may be large or small, but they are sure to be hugely expressive! Students are welcome to sculp dinosaurs from history or make up their own whimsical creatures. Sculpted dinosaurs can be cute and silly, or seriously terrifying! Leaves have ideal shapes and textures to use to create plates in clay. One of the most unique leaves is the lily pad. A reminder of spring and the summer to come!
